New Testament, New Covenant or Renewed Covenant

New Testament, New Covenant or Renewed Covenant?

Article First Published  D28  M10 2023

[pw= pagan word]

What did Yahushua (pw Jesus) come to confirm. Was it a New Testament, New Covenant or Renewed Covenant? Does it matter?

New Testament?Renewed Covenant

Let's look at the first option "new testament". Does it appear in the scriptures?

Mat 26:28  For this is my blood of the new testament*, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Yes, it does. So, many of you will  say,  so, what is your problem?

Well the  Greek Word for testament here is

G1242
διαθήκη
diathēkē
dee-ath-ay'-kay
From G1303; properly a disposition, that is, (specifically) a contract (especially a devisory will): - covenant, testament.
Total KJV occurrences: 33x

As you can see we already have the alternative word "covenant". Why have the translators opted for testament?   We shall  now refer to an article we wrote taken from our page Sunday Worship Terms

Many do not know that the word"testament" is another Hellinised or pagan word which has crept into the translation of scripture. It is designed to corrupt  or replace the word "Covenant" in the scriptures.

Testament / Testify / Testimony  all have their Latin roots from the word "testicle".

"In ancient Rome, two men taking an oath of allegiance held each other's testicles, and men held their own testicles as a sign of truthfulness while bearing witness in a public forum." (https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/games-primates-play/201112/testify-comes-the-latin-word-testicle.) The psychologist here justifies this behaviour by relating men to apes. No wonder Shimon ( Simon Peter) said

II Peter 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

The scripture does not refer to any such practice contrary to some To'rahless interpretations eg. gathered from this scripture :

Gen 47:29 And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found favour (pw grace) in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:

3409 yarek yaw-rake' from an unused root meaning to be soft; the thigh (from its fleshy softness); by euphemism. the generative parts; figuratively, a shank, flank, side:--X body, loins, shaft, side, thigh.

To'rah forbids such a thing, To'rah is not for primates (apes) but sons and daughters of Yah'uah made in His image, not brute beasts.

Lev 18:7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover:

Joseph simply asked his son to deal kindly and asked him to promise which he did by placing his hand under his thigh joint not grab his testicles! Joseph then died and the promise was kept.

The same word is used here and it shows how ridiculous it would be to suggest an out of joint testicle!

Gen32: 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

or even what about:

Gen 32:31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

or

Ex25:31 And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.

or

Judges 3:21 And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:

We see the same with Abraham asking his servant to make an oath.

Gen 24:2  And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:

It is more likely that the Romans invented the perverse idea from their pagan To'rahless approach to the scriptures and corrupted it as with their other pagan terms and ideas that we cover on this page [Sunday Worship Terms] (eg. Easter, Christmass etc). No wonder there is so much pedophilia in the Roman Catholic thing called "church" - it could always be explained by a sick perversion of the scriptures in making a so-called oath with a young boy perhaps!!!

One dare not think what twisted To'rahless thing they will make of Mashiach (pw Messiah) here:

Rev 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND MASTER (pw LORD) OF MASTERS (pw LORDS)

Perhaps they would blaspheme and suggest a tattoo which is also forbidden in the To'rah, no matter where it is on the body!??

As we see the words testament, testimony or testify are nowhere mentioned within these two accounts with Joseph and Abraham. An oath (Hebrew shebuah) and a swearing (shaba) are made.  There is no link to testicles here which should be expected if it were meant to be linked since Hebrew is all about linking to a root idea or root word. The word testicles is not Hebrew in the first place neither is testimony, testify or testament!

When it is the private parts then Hebrew mabush (pudenda) is used. No need for confusion it is clear!

Deut 25:11-12 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets (Heb mabush -pudenda): Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.

* For testify use Hebrew: anah (shout out, sing out) or English : declare witness, declaration, for testament  use - Will / Covenant

The "Old Testament" ironically does not have any of its Hebrew words translated into the English word "Testament" in the KJV . That's right there is no "Testament" in the so-called  "Old Testament". We do however see "testify" and "testimony" creeping in.

New Covenant or Renewed Covenant?

Now that we have eliminated the pagan Graeco-Roman word "Testament"  we will have to look at " New " versus "Renewed" when it comes to  the Covenant"

Jer 31:33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares YAHUAH (pw the LORD): I will put my law [TORAH] within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their Elohim (pw God), and they shall be my people.

Firstly what is the New Covenant?  When I ask “Christians” what is the New Covenant” based on they are usually dumbfounded and resort to saying “Jesus”. This of course is false. Yahushua (pw Jesus) came to CONFIRM the covenant with Abraham promising salvation to many as prophesied ie. many Spiritual Sons of Abraham and thus Sons of Elohim. He came to REFRESH / RENEW / STRENGTHEN the previous COVENANT in TORAH in our hearts as prophesied.

The Torah has not been done away with by the changing of the administration of the Torah which was previously through the Levitical Priesthood involving animal offerings but now administered  through our High Priest Yahushua.

Rom 4:16  That is why it depends on moral conviction emunah (pw faith), in order that the promise may rest on kindness (pw grace) and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the moral conviction (pw faith) of Abraham, who is the father of us all,

To “share the moral conviction” with Abraham means you are convicted to obey Torah as he did.

Gen 26:5  because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

Rom 4:17  as it is written, “I have made you [Abraham – through the Covenant Confirmed now in Yahushua] the father of many nations”—in the presence of the Elohim (pw God) in whom he believed [obeyed Torah – Gen 26:5), who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.

Yahushua has CONFIRMED (RENEWED BY STRENGTHENING) the Covenant of Torah as prophesied in Daniel.

Dan 9:27  And he [Yahushua] shall confirm (H1396) he covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease…

Strong's Greek

H1396 gâbar

gaw-bar'

A primitive root; to be strong; by implication to prevail, act insolently: - exceed, confirm, be great, be mighty, prevail, put to more [strength], STRENGTHEN, be stronger, be valiant.

Isa 42:21 Yahuah (pw The LORD) is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law[TORAH], and make it honourable.

Thus the Covenant is renewing / strengthening the original Torah covenant with Abraham and causing its promises to become a reality.

Example

A marriage covenant between spouses and Elohim can be RENEWED if one got married as two secular unbelievers who since came to repentance and the truth of Yahushua. They realise they got married without authority to Yahuah and his commands as unbelievers. The previous marriage covenant is not made invalid , they do not become divorced, but the old covenant is renewed, refreshed and strengthened by a heart of right understanding.

Psa 119:34  Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law [Torah]; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

Psa 51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O Elohim; and renew * a right spirit within me.

Now we begin to enter into the realm of this word "renewed" take a look at the Hebrew word  for renew here: new moon

* Chadash – Hebrew H2318 חָדַשׁ to be new, rebuild, repair

The Hebrew words for "New Testament" is "Brit Chadasha"- Renewed Covenant

This is where we get the new month based on the “new” moon as commanded by Yahuah. The moon is not NEW but renewed / refreshed from darkness to light again. The word is lost in translation here again by using "new"

Col 2:16  ... of the new moon*, or of the sabbath days:

noo-may-nee'-ah

Feminine of a compound of G3501 and G3376 (as noun by implication of G2250); the festival of new moon: - new moon.

G3501

νέος, νεώτερος

neos    neōteros

neh'-os, neh-o'-ter-os

A primary word, including the comparative (second form); “new”, that is, (of persons) youthful, or (of things) fresh; figuratively regenerate: - new, young.

Total KJV occurrences: 24

G3376

μήν

mēn

mane

A primary word; a month: - month.

Total KJV occurrences: 18

So a new moon means a new month thus we have a renewed/ refreshed moon cycle with a new month.

Notice Apostle Paul's choice of word here when it comes to redemption through Yahushua:

Heb6:4 For it is impossible...

Heb 6:6  .to restore (RENEW) them again to repentance, since they are putting him on the stake / stauros (pw crucifying) once again the Son of Elohim…

One cannot be renewed again here unless one was already renewed the first time through the Renewing Covenant. It is clear that Apostle Shaul  has this concept of a covenant that renews or a renewd Covenant. But some will say those are two different things. But then are they? DId Yahushua say he has come to make a new covenant that replaces the Torah. If so then he would be going against the prophecy of  Jer 31:33 we quoted earlier which says the covenant is founded upon Torah and written on the heart.  Yahushua would be contradicting his very own words in Matthew.

No, Yahushua makes it clear that he has not come to abolish the written Torah but to fulfill (verify, confirm, strengthen) it.

Mat 5:17 'Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law [TORAH] or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. KJV Mat 5:18 For truly, I say to you, until shamayim (pw heaven) and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law [TORAH]until all is accomplished. KJV Mat 5:19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of shamayim (pw heaven), but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of shamayim KJV Mat 5:20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of shamayim (pw heaven).’ KJV

Conclusion

Yahushua has renewed the covenant of Abraham with his people so that they can return and obey afresh, with a renewed right spirit in Yahushua. By this Covenant we join with Spiritual Israel with Yahushua as our ruler  (not to be mistaken with secular Israel and secular Zionism).

The Covenant is both New and Renewed since it involves a renewing,  confirming and strengthening of the Abrahamic Covenant and it is New in that it replaces the Levitical Priesthood with animal offerings under Moses with that of Yahushua's once-for-all blood offering and his administration from the haykal in shamayim (pw heaven) while magnifying the written Torah which remains and is written afresh in our hearts and not on stone.

Through the New / Renewed Covenant we are made a new Creation. We are not really "new" physically since we still die, but we are restored, renewed, refreshed spiritually by dying to the old man so that we will be made new at the resurrection.

Col 3:10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
