We often hear the Phrase

hey hit me“Turn the other cheek”

 it often comes from those who do not 

Even Follow Mashiak (pw Messiah) , yet it Is Mashiak That Taught it.


But What Does it Really Mean?

What did Mashiak (pw Messiah) mean when he said turn the other cheek? It is easy for us to misunderstand when we are taught bits and pieces of scripture out of context. The church system corrupts the Word of Elohim (pw God) just as the Pharisees (organised religion) did before in Messiah’s day. We thus end up with useless out of place bits of hearsay unless we study for ourselves. Many don’t understand the Hebrew translation of the scriptures (pw Bible). It has been corrupted by the Catholic Greek and Latin translations.

Much abuse has been carried out in the world by tyrants misusing the scriptures and especially misapplying forgiveness for their own benefit.  They will most often misuse “turn the other cheek” along with a phrase similar to  “you must forgive” This misapplication of the phrase has led to serious flaws in people’s lives.

When the Mashiak Yahu’shua (pw Messiah Jesus) said “turn the other cheek” some may think he was telling us, who are his followers, to chase after abuse or he had an obsession for red cheeks!?

WHAT DOES SCRIPTURE REALLY SAY

As always we turn to the scriptures and not to the teachings of men.

Matthew 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil* : but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

* The word in Greek here is actually poneros

4190 poneros pon-ay-ros' from a derivative of 4192; hurtful, i.e. evil (properly, in effect or influence, and thus differing from 2556, which refers rather to essential character, as well as from 4550, which indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively, calamitous; also (passively) ill, i.e. diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, i.e. derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners:--bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked

So alternatively and more correctly in this context the text should have been translated:

But I say unto you, That ye resist not guilt / culpability: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

The perversion of the scriptures like this by Catholicism and or Christianity could only be advantageous in promoting non-resistance to the evils of their own centuries of paedophilia which continues to this day!

We also see much church abuse in general by false teachers who simply tell their congregation not to be offended and warn them that they must simply "turn the other cheek" and thus these foolish people remain in the abusive system called "church". This is very convenient in the megalomaniac lawless tithing system today of the false religion of Christianity.

So according to Mat 5:39 the guilty person in civil matters of Yah’uah’s justice according to To’rah must not resist his just punishment but should even go the extra mile to humbly endure it and have remorse as it will make him a better person morally. We see the very opposite today with the guilty in the justice system.

Yahu’shua was referring to what the Almighty Father had already said hundreds of years before in his scriptures regarding his justice. Yah'ushua does not replace Yah'uah’s scripture with some 60’s “Jesus Freak” Humanism borrowed from the Beatles “all you need is Love” sprinkled with a little Allister Crowley Magic. NO!!

The true Mashiak (pw Messiah) was plainly referring to the scriptures of old (tanak) which points to the guilty one who must “turn the cheek” in the presence of Yah’uah the Most High Judge.

Yahushua Ha Mashiak (pw Jesus the Messiah) did not come to replace the To'rah but magnify it and make it honorable (Is 42:21).

The prophet Jeremiah had already written about accepting culpability or guilt when guilty. 

Lamentations 3:              

30 let him give his cheek to the one who strikes, and let him be filled with insults.
31 For Yah'uah (pw the LORD) will not cast off forever,
32 but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love;
33 for he does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.
34 To crush underfoot all the prisoners of the earth,
35 to deny a man justice in the presence of the Most High,
36 to subvert a man in his lawsuit, Yah'uah (pw the LORD)does not approve
37 Who has spoken and it came to pass,
unless Yah'uah (pw the LORD) has commanded it?
38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
that good and bad come?
39 Why should a living man complain, a man, about the punishment of his sins?
40 Let us test and examine our ways, and return to Yah'uah (pw the LORD)!
41 Let us lift up our hearts and hands to Elohim (pw God) in shamayim (pw heaven):
42 “We have transgressed and rebelled, and you have not forgiven.

Likewise the guilty one should not think to slap Yah’uah in the face and he is meant to turn the other cheek especially when he is the judge delivering the judgement on the guilty. You may say but who would do such a thing?

Mic 5:1  Now you are raided, O daughter of raiders, a siege has been laid against us. They strike the Judge of Yisra’ěl with a rod on the cheek.

That is ultimately what is happening still today every time one believes Yah’uah MUST forgive them while they wilfully continue to transgress Torah (pw sin) before his face and reject his To'rah.  He does not forgive such wilful rebellion. That would definitely be a slap in the face of Yah’uah, so to say, after sending his Son to die and atone for our past transgressions of Torah while we were still ignorant.

The fact that Mashiak is preaching about accepting guilt in Matthew is clearly proven by his statements still followng the context of accepting your guilt when guilty (referring to being sued ). You must allow reparation to take place and not withold it even if it means repaying more (with interest as it were). You have done wrong and you should not benefit from it at all - take your punishment.  In toady's justice system people pay advocates to pervert the law so that they can not only avoid punishment but benefit from it and sue the person who rightfully accuses them. Yam esh ( lake of fire) awaits those who pervert justice.

Mat 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.

The inhabitants of Jerusalem were taken over by their enemies, Rome. This was due to the fact that they had transgressed Torah. They were to take their punishment and do as they were told by the Roman soldiers sending them on errands etc.

The criminal on the stake (pw cross) who will be in paradise in the future is the one who truly repented and “turned the other cheek” as it were, the one who accepted his punishment in contrast to the criminal who was wanting to escape his punishment.

Luke 23:39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Messiah (pw Christ)? Save yourself and us!”  40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear Elohim (pw God), since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?  41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man (Yah’ushua) has done nothing wrong.”  42 And he said, “Yah'ushua (pw Jesus), remember me when you come into your rule and reign (pw kingdom).”  43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you today, you will be with me in Paradise.”

What about Mashiak himself? Did he turn the other cheek when he was hit in the face at his trial? No he did not. But should he not have practiced what he preached - to turn the other cheek? Of course not. First of all he was innocent and the punishment he received was because of our transgressions so the context of turn the other cheek,  to accept guilt and culpability, obviously did not apply to our Messiah who was without sin. Furthermore he was the judge.

Luke22:64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? And many other things blasphemously spake they against him. And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying, Art thou the Messia (pw Christ)? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

Elohim (pw God) had warned Israel over and over again that they would be punished for their wilful unrepentant sins (transgression of To'rah) and Jerusalem would be destroyed and they would be taken captive to Babylon. He told them to endure their due punishment there when it comes and not resist. Those who resisted saw a worse end. He has warned us and Israel again of more future punishment to those who do not repent through his Son, Yah'ushua and obey the Father's commandments as he did (Jn 15:10).

They seem to not understand that one can only forgive someone who is repentant, hates their sin, accepts their punishment or any loss resulting from their sin and stops sinning. King David is a perfect example - after committing adultery and murder his son died, but he accepted it and repented and changed. Repentance means turning away from sin. Forgiveness toward all of us has initially been offered unconditionally since Yah’uah has offered the whole world amnesty for its past sins since we have all sinned in the past. But not all  receive it since not all are repentant and they continue rejecting his To'rah. But through Messiah if we repent (change and stop sinning) we are forgiven, but after that if we wilfully sin it is more serious. Not even Elohim (pw God) can forgive those who are not repentant (Lam 3:42) and continue sinning, they cannot demand such forgiveness.

It is important to note that Yahushua's eyes fell upon the disciples when he spoke about turning the other cheek while the crowd was listening in the distance. He was speaking primarily to the disciples who would be teachers that would lead the people into the good message. Why is this significant? He was setting a standard with witnesses present. He was saying even leaders are accountable to Yahuah and need to accept culpability and there is no respector of persons with Elohim. Yahushua was making sure they understood this before they thought they were above the law or more accurately above the Torah as so many false church leaders and  so-called "kings's children" think today.

Other scripture relating to conditions of forgiveness 

(and not according to hearsay of the false system called "church").


 Mat 18:
15-18 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the congregation (pw church). And if he refuses to listen even to the congregation (pw church), let him be to you as a heathen(pw Gentile/gentilis) and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in shamayim (pw heaven), and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed  in shamayim (pw heaven).

The Mashiak defines “brother” as one who professes and does the will of the Father (his commandments) :

Mark 3:33 And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”  34 And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!  35 Whoever does the will of Elohim (pw God), he is my brother and sister and mother.”

1 Cor 5:
11 But now I (Shaul / Paul) am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.  12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the congregation (pw church) whom you are to judge?  13 Elohim (pw God) judges those outside. “Purge the evil* person from among you.”
  

Again the word here is poneros, the guilty person, 

it is he who is the one that is removed.

He is not kept in the congregation so he can keep slapping

all the congregation on both cheeks, he is removed!

If it is the leader of your congregation 

who is doing the slapping (is guilty) and telling you to turn the

other cheek (be abused) then instead you turn and walk out the door.

1 Cor 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the rule and reign (pw kingdom) of Elohim (pw God)? 

Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters,

nor adulterers, nor effeminate, 

nor abusers of themselves with mankind

The false church system often encourages a spouse to stay in an abusive marriage 

as they say divorce is a sin but so is allowing oneself to be unnecessarily abused.  


They will also tell them to stay married and turn the other cheek after their 

spouse has committed adultery but the To'rah says you are not to take back an adulterer.
