We are told by church leaders today that as believers we no longer keep the sabbath (Saturday) as pure (set apart) since now every day is sabbath. They tell us that Messiah came and gave us rest. They claim that this rest is now an eternal sabbath. They use the following verse to support this claim.

Matthew 11:28: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

The command to keep the sabbath (seventh day) set apart from work  is one of the ten commandments. So by their statement we are led to believe that this commandment below has fallen away.

Ex:20:8: Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Ex:20:9: Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Ex:20:10: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

These same churches will tell us that fasting is a commandment and something that we should do as seen in the New Testament. Some even have called for what they call a Daniel fast (this another topic for discussion altogether)

Now lets look at something that Yeshua (erroneously named Jesus) tells us.

Matthew 9:14-15: Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

So while Yeshua (the bridegroom) was with the disciples it was a joyous time for feasting and celebration. However when he leaves there will be a time for fasting as we mourn for his return.

Now therefore:
1) Yeshua commands both fasting and feasting
2) Yeshua says there is a time for each
3) Yeshua indicates that when he goes there is time for fasting.

Now if the sabbath is everyday, as these false teachers claim, then there is no time or allowance for fasting! Why? Well the sabbath by the Torah of Yahweh is a day of feasting and not a day for fasting. So they are in direct contradiction to what Yeshua said in the verse we quoted.

So it makes it appear as if the false church is rather celebrating the fact that Yeshua is not here in stead of mourning for his return. But in reality they do set aside another day Sunday supposedly celebrating Messiah's resurrection and then say that every day is sabbath. Rather confusing.

The false church cannot have it both their way without contradicting the law of Yahweh. They cannot say everyday is a day of feasting (sabbath ) while at the same time allowing fasting to exist on one or any day of the week for that matter. Fasting simply cannot exist if the sabbath (feasting day) is now an eternal rest- every day.

In fact the heretics in church history actually used fasting to try and eradicate Yahweh's sabbath-keeping commandment by trying to enforce fasting on the seventh day. In this way they hoped to make Yahweh's sabbath unattractive and elevate their own "venerable day of the Sun" -Sunday in direct opposition to the Elohim of creation and elohim of the sabbath, Yaweh.

The fact therefore remains:

The sabbath remains on one specific day-the seventh day. It is clearly stated:

Heb:4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

The six days, of the rest of the week, is the time to fast if one wishes.

Heb:4:9: There remaineth therefore a rest* to the people of Yahweh
Heb:4:10: For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as Yahweh did from his.

( *sabbatismos --seventh day, sabbath )

The ultimate feast will be with Messiah, the bridegroom at the wedding feast when he returns. In the meantime we the bride of Messiah rest in him and keep sabbath, as commanded, to remind us it is Yahweh the Father who sets us apart, and it is not us by ourselves.

Ex:31:13: Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am Yahweh that doth sanctify you.
